Computers and Cagli

Everyone is settled in Cagli now. The first day’s classes are over. It was a good day, I think. The work is pretty intense, although the faculty is quite good at keeping it light. The Italian class has already raced far beyond me, so I’ve given up trying (I had to miss a class and don’t have time to read the book). But I’m sitting in the other classes as much as I can.

We have eight faculty, counting Carole Burns who is vital to the operation. Her flexibility in figuring out ways to adapt Italian technology to American computers is wonderful.  I am realizing now how important computers are to all of us as I watch students huddle outside the lab Skyping and checking e-mail while the lab is closed.

It became even more important to me when my personal computer quit charging, and I was afraid I’d have to give up Skyping late at night, and use the lab computers (the lab closes at 4:30 p.m.). But, the computer gods were kind and somehow it started charging again.  We don’t know why, but life goes on for another day.
